Sierra + Joe

Nothing could have prepared us for the immense joy and fun it would be in celebrating Sierra and Joe.
I’ve been lucky enough to have known the bride’s family for years and finally getting to throw a party together, was an absolute dream come true!
We were brought on for event florals and Day of Coordination to help bring the vision of a sophisticated and modern, garden-inspired wedding to life at the iconic Detroit Yacht Club.
Guests gathered from all over to witness this couples nuptials. With the groom being from Pittsburg, the couple meeting in the Charm City, and taking roots in the bride’s hometown of Detroit, this was truly a special couple to celebrate.
The bridal party stayed at the beautiful The Godfrey Hotel in Detroit. The Hair and Makeup team by LoftLeRouge, CMBeauty were a dream to work with, especially with such a large bridal party to accommodate. These ladies were ready to celebrate Sierra and the vibes were high all morning long. The bride gifted her ladies with custom embroidered pajamas by Sol Stitch Designs - such a thoughtful gift and the perfect touch for getting ready photos.
Sierra wore the most stunning gown by Watters Designs for Anthropologie Weddings. This dress was truly made for her - and I will forever be obsessed with it! The sweetheart neckline with plunging corset style bodice were a modern touch paired with an allover lace and flowy ballgown design. 10000/10 absolutely no notes on this one.
The bridesmaids were given full freedom in choosing their dress, the only requirements were it needed to be black and floor length…..and these beauties did not miss! Each of the ten bridesmaids wore a stunning dress that perfectly fit their style and personalities. From fringe, to ruffles, off the shoulder and feathers, these ladies stunned in their curated and timeless black silhouettes.
The fellas wore a classic all black tuxedo with a white button down, black bow tie and white pocket square. Their clean and polished look was an elevated anchor paired with the ladies varied silhouettes.
Sierra and Joe had both their ceremony and reception at the Detroit Yacht Club. The ceremony took place in the Fountain Room where The Bluewater Kings Band ushered guests in with stringed quartet. We installed a gorgeous 9ft tall garden arch that was semi exposed for a bit of a modern touch. It was chalked full of deep hued greenery and textural white blooms throughout. We placed lush aisle anchors at both the front and back rows for an extra pop of florals.
Sierra’s bouquet is one of my absolute favorites to have designed to date. I literally say this about every bridal bouquet, but I truly mean it! It was a floral forward design with pops of variegated greenery and the most perfect summer anemones that stole the show. Textural, whimsy, and oh so perfect blooms. The bridesmaids held smaller versions of the bridal bouquet with a touch of darker greenery added in.
The reception was held in the Grand Ballroom and guests found their seats on the custom seating chart, designed and installed by Modernly Events. Aimee, owner and creative director of Modernly, worked closely with our couple to ensure details and custom monogram were perfect. Social Blooms and Events added trailing greenery to the top and a couple floral arrangements in front to anchor the space. We later added in four additional ceremony arrangements to the base (we love when we can repurpose florals!) for more impact.
This was definitely a “Wow” moment for guests as they entered the reception area.
To add interest and give a more custom layout to the spacious ballroom, Sierra opted for a serpentine table for the wedding party, down the center of the room. We absolutely loved how this broke up the sea of round tables and allowed both Sierra and Joe to be truly surrounded by their family and friends.
Guests tables were designed with intention and were a mix of large compote arrangements, lower bowl arrangements, and groupings of glass enclosed pillar and taper candles for a romantic glow. The varying heights and size of arrangements gave the room more dimension and a custom look. Black Chiavari chairs, sparkling floral chargers and crisp white-floor length linen all rented from Luxe Event Linen.
Although the bridal party was hype all day long, Lufru Entertainment took the lead at the reception and kept the dance floor packed and party going all night long. From epic mixes, to a sax man hyping guests up on the dancefloor, Lufru made it a night to remember.
When guests weren’t dancing the night away, you could find them at the photobooth by Mammoth Party, signing helmets from S+J’s alma maters, taking in the views on the veranda, or enjoying the tradition of the Pittsburgh Cookie Table. So many incredible and thoughtful elements were included in Sierra and Joe’s day to bring friends and family together.
Custom bar sign and table numbers by local artist, Sawdust and Cider.
So much to love and look back on celebrating this sweet couple.
